The styles of freshwater pearl jewellery have largely developed over the pas 20 years. Until the 1980's pearls were not so much associated with the idea fashion' or trendy' as they were associated with classic images or weddings. In the past two decades we have seen the term pearl jewellery' expand to a very large extend - jewellery designers started combining pearls with silver and gold and other precious stones. A much bigger diversity in designer pearl jewellery was introduced to us and pearls are no longer only associated with terms like classic jewellery' or wedding jewellery'.
